Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was able to explore her creative and artistic side as a child due to her aunt Denise. She was an evening nurse in order to give her aunt the time she needed throughout the day for the love of literature, art as well as theatre. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 movie West Side Story and DuVernay became enthralled by the film. DuVernay saw how art was an effective way to spread the cause of activism. DuVernay had a mother who was socially aware and showed her how to use art as a method of expressing herself. There she received qualifications in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay began producing for the broadcast industry while she was still in university. As an intern, she worked for CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being instructed to take a look at the junk from a home belonging to a jury member. The tasks that she had to accomplish left her unsatisfied which is why, when she decided not to continue in journalism, she shifted to the world of publicity. DuVernay was hired right after graduating from college as an intern at an unassuming studio. In 1999, she launched her own company of public relations called The DuVernay Agency.
